since a nickel is equal to 0.05 us dollars and a dime is equal to 0.10 us dollars, we will express the information given in a sytem of two equations

0.05N+0.10D=6

N=D

then

0.05N+0.10N=6

0.15N=6

N=40=D

then we will need 40 dimes and 40 nickels.
