Let us take a price of 100.

So, let us now consider the order availing 40% off first then 10 %,

Now considering the other order.

`\begin{gathered} 100*(10)/(100)=10 \\ \text{amount = 100-10=90} \\ 40\text{ \% off , } \\ 90*(40)/(100)=36 \\ \text{Amount = 90-36}=54 \end{gathered}`

Both ways are equal.
