The Santa Barbara Planning commission recently voted to restrict the size of home remodels by limiting the floor area to lot area ratio to a maximum of 0.45 to 1. Under these guidelines,(A) What would be the maximum allowable size of a remodel on an 11,800-sq-ft lot?

The limiting floor ratio is 0.45 to 1, this means that we have the ratio 0.45:1.

Let x be the new remodel sizem since at first we had 11800 squared ft now we have a ratio x:11800.

Equating the ratios we have the proportion:

(x)/(11800)=(0.45)/(1)

Solving for x we have:

\begin{gathered} (x)/(11800)=(0.45)/(1) \\ x=0.45(11800) \\ x=5310 \end{gathered}

Therefore the maximum size is 5310 squared ft.
