The given equation is

x-5=2(4x-3)

First, we use the distributive property

x-5=8x-6

We sum 5 on each side

\begin{gathered} x-5+5=8x-6+5 \\ x=8x-1 \end{gathered}

Now, we subtract 8x on each side

\begin{gathered} x-8x=8x-8x-1 \\ -7x=-1 \end{gathered}

At last, we divide the equation by -7

\begin{gathered} (-7x)/(-7)=(-1)/(-7) \\ x=(1)/(7) \end{gathered}

Therefore, the solution is 1/7.
