The cost of parking in a municipal garage is a base fee of $1.25 for each hour that you park. Your cost for 5hours is $10.25. Write a linear equation in slope intercept that models the cost of parking, y, in terms of the number of hours, X.

If the cost is $1.25 per hour and you park for 5 hours, the payment should have been:

1.25*5=6.25

The payment should have been $6.25.

However, since the payment in total is $10.25, there must be:

10.25-6.25=4

There must be an initial fee of $4 in order to park in the municipal garage.

Therefore, the linear equation that describes the cost of parking is:

y=1.25x+4

where $1.25 is the additional fee per "x" hours while $4 is the initial fee in order to park.
