My teacher wants me to write an argumentative letter, is that the same as an argumentative essay? If not what's the difference

There is a difference. A argumentative letter is like you are writing it in the mail to someone. But you are still trying to sway there opinion based on the evidence that you say in the letter. Your welcome. :)
