A 250-pound bin of animal feed sells for $0.75 per pound. How many pounds of feed costing$2.50 per pound should be mixed with it to make a mixture which costs $1.50 per pound?

Using the given information, we have the following


0.75\cdot250+2.50x=1.50\cdot250

Then, we solve for x


\begin{gathered} 187.50+2.50x=375 \\ 2.50x=375-187.50 \\ 2.50x=187.50 \\ x=(187.5)/(2.5) \\ x=75 \end{gathered}

Hence, there must be added 75 pounds of feed costing $2.50 per pound.
