Pair os socks = s

Pair of gloves = g

Time per pair of socks = 3 hours

Time per pair of gloves = 7 hours

She spends 89 hours:

3s + 7 g = 89

A total of 15 pairs of socks and gloves

s+ g = 15

We have the system:

3s + 7 g = 89 (a)

s+ g = 15 (b)

Multiply (b) by 3 and subtract (b) to (a) in order to eliminate s.

3s + 7 g = 89

-

3s + 3 g = 45

___________

4g = 44

solve for g:

g= 44/4

g= 11

Replace g on any initial equation and solve for s:

s+g = 15

s + 11 = 15

s= 15-11

s= 4

a. 4 pairs of socks and 11 pairs of gloves
