If 4 pounds of nails cost $11.60, what is the cost of 3.5 pounds?

the answer is 10.15

first you divide $11.60 by 4
you get 2.9. that is the price for one pound
then you multiply that by 3.5

11.60/4 = 2.9
2.9 x 3.5 = $10.15
