Solution:

Let the following graph:

Limit by right:

We move along the x-axis from right to left, then we get:

lim. f(x)

x--- 1+ = 3

Limit by left:

We move along the x-axis from left to right, then we get:

lim. f(x)

x--- 1- = Infinite

thus, Since the two limits are different we can say that the limit when x approaches 1 DOES NOT EXIST.
