Read the case and answer the questions that follow.

The police forced three people out of their home and into a police car. The individuals were blindfolded and were given no information by the police. They were taken immediately to a prison where they were placed into a large cell. A year later, they were still in the prison. They were not told why they were in prison, and they were never brought to trial. They were not allowed to have visitors or any contact with anyone outside of the prison.
Do you think this could happen in the United States? Why or why not?

Answer: No, this could not happen in the United States.

Explanation: Everything listed in this scenario blatantly violates the Sixth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States. According to the 6th Amendment, the accused must be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation and have the right to a speedy trial; however, neither of these were provided whatsoever. Thus, this situation could not occur in the United States.
