Since the perimeter of the painting and the frame is 82 inches we can write an expression to calculate it, considering that there is a part x over and below the painting.

Therefore the perimeter can be written:

(13+2x)+(13+2x)+(16+2x)+(16+2x)=82

26+4x+32+4x=82

58+8x=82

8x=82-58

8x=24

x=3

Given the fact that x is 3

Then the width of the frame is 16+ 2(3) = 22 inches
