We have the expression:

2x+4

Analyzing each term separately we have

2x=2*x

4=2*2

We can see there is one factor that both expressions have: the number 2

1. The GCF is 2

2.

The GCF is 2, and if we want to factor it out, we must divide both terms by 2:

2x+4=2(x+2)

Note the term 2x was divided by 2 to get x, and 4 by 2 is 2

The factored function is

2x+4=2(x+2)
