You need to solve

5(2x-8)=20

First step is to solve the multiplication in parentheses by applying the distributive propperty of multiplications, that is, multiply each term held between them by 5:

\begin{gathered} 5\cdot2x-8\cdot5=20 \\ 10x-40=20 \end{gathered}

Next "pass" -40 to the other side of the equation by performing the inverse operation to both of its sides

\begin{gathered} 10x-40+40=20+40 \\ 10x=60 \end{gathered}

Finally divide both sides of the equation by 10 to determine the value of x

\begin{gathered} (10x)/(10)=(60)/(10) \\ x=6 \end{gathered}

The vlaue of x is 6
