Given that Greg has 'x' pair of sneakers.

Twice of the pair of sneakers is given as,

2x

It is also given that Matthew has five fewer pairs of sneakers than twice the amount that possessed by Greg.

Let Matthew has 'y' pair of sneakers, then the relation may be expressed as,

y=2x-5

Thus, the number of pair of sneakers that Mathew possess, is given by y = 2x - 5.
