Why do you need to use plural when saying something is zero, like zero appleS but you don't do it when there's only ONE apple because like isn't zero less than one

Answer:

Because the English language is weird. But if you want a serious answer...

Explaination:

It's because when you have one apple you know it's a singular apple because there is only one apple. The same as when you have two apples you know it's plural because there are multiple apples. But zero uses plural nouns even though it is less than one and is essentually nothing.

Plural nouns usually describe a quantity other than the baseline quantity which is represented by a noun (typically one). In simpler terms this means we use the plural for everything except one of something. Zero is something other than one, so it is plural.

I hope this answered your question.
