Explanation:

1) Factor out 3 (3a⁴ + 12a³ - 12a² - 48a)

2) a⁴ + 4a³ - 4a² - 16a

3) Factor out (a) (a⁴ + 4a³ - 4a² - 16a)

Ex a(a⁵) turns into a⁴ because you subtract the exponents

4) Answer: a³ + 4a² - 4a - 16

You can do this all at once but I separated it.
