To make equivalent rational expressions, we have to make sure that what is done in the denominator must also be done in the numerator.

Looking at the expression, the denominator has been multiplied by (y + 6). Hence, we must also multiply the numerator by (y + 6).

8(y+6)

If we need to simplify the numerator further, distribute 8 to the numbers inside the parentheses. Our numerator can be:

\begin{gathered} 8(y)+8(6) \\ 8y+48 \end{gathered}

To summarize, the numerator in the equivalent expression can be 8(y + 6) or 8y + 48.
