Letter L

The length of each side of the letter is the number of squares that the side contains. We would section the letter and label the length of each side. We have

The perimeter of a figure is the distance around it. Thus,

Perimeter = 15 + 3 + 15 + 7 + 3 + 10 + 3

Perimeter = 56

Sections A and B are rectangles. The formula for calculating the area of a rectangle is expressed as

Area = length x width

For rectangle A,

Area = 15 x 3 = 45

For rectangle B,

Area = 10 x 3 = 30

Area of letter L = 45 + 30

Area of letter L = 75
