We are given that the total points of the test is 150. If "x" is the number of questions worth 5 points and "y" the number of questions worth 8 points then the total number of points is:

5x+8y=150,(1)

We are also given that the total number of questions is 24, therefore, we have:

x+y=24,(2)

Therefore, the system of equations that can be used to solve for each type of question is:

\begin{gathered} 5x+8y=150,(1) \\ x+y=24,(2) \end{gathered}
