The larger of two numbers is 4 more than 2 times the smaller.

Let two numbers be x and y

y = 4 + 2 x ---------------- equ 1

If the smaller is subtracted from the larger, the result is 7. Find the two numbers.

y - x = 7 ---------------------- equ 2

Solution:

y = 4 + 2 x ---------------- equ 1

y - x = 7 ----------- y = x + 7 ---------- equ 2

equ 1 = equ 2

x + 7 = 4 + 2x

7 - 4 = 2 x - x

x = 3

put x = 3 in equ 2 , we have :

y = x + 7 --------- equ 2

y = 3 + 7 = 10

CONCLUSION : x= 3 , y = 10
