8 7/3 + 4 1/3

First, add the whole numbers:

8 + 4 = 12

Then, add the fractions:

3/7 + 1 /3

Find the LCM ( least common multiple) of the denominators ( bottom numbers )

21

Then multiply the top and bottom numbers by the same number to obtain 21 at the bottom.

(3)/(7)\cdot(3)/(3)+(1)/(3)\cdot(7)/(7)
(9)/(21)+(7)/(21)

Add the top numbers and keep the same denominator (21)

(16)/(21)

Join all :

12 16/21

Answer:

12(16)/(21)
