The width of a rectangle is 2 its length. The perimeter of the rectangle is 540 ft. What is the length, in feet, of the rectangle?

To solve this problem we can write one equation for each condition so:

the width of a rectangle is 2 its length so:


W=2L

and one for the perimeter so:


2W+2L=540

Now we replace the first equation into the second one so:


\begin{gathered} 2(2L)+2L=540 \\ 4L+2L=540 \\ 6L=540 \\ L=(540)/(6) \\ L=90 \end{gathered}

So the length of the rectangle is 90 ft
