The Pythagorean theorem

a^2+b^2=c^2

states that the square on the hypotenuse of a triangle is equal to the sum of the squares on the legs for the same right triangle.

Since the image gives information for one of the legs and the hypotenuse, the theorem needs to be solved for one of the legs

\begin{gathered} a^2=c^2-b^2 \\ a=\sqrt[]{c^2-b^2} \end{gathered}

with the triangles data

\begin{gathered} a=\sqrt[]{10^2-6^2} \\ a=\sqrt[]{100-36} \\ a=\sqrt[]{64} \\ a=8 \end{gathered}

the missing side of the triangle is equal to 8.
