we start off with 15 cupcakes in total. Our number of cupcakes decreases when we give 13 to our friends. 15-13=2 so we have 2 cupcakes left. If we then give the remaining 2 cupcakes to our teachers, then we are left with 0 cupcakes.

The way to express this as an equation is 15 - 13 - 2 = 0 , which is equivalent to 15+(-13)+(-2)=0
