We have to transform each part into an equation.

"Their combined savings is $110" can be expressed as

x+y=110

"One brother has $35 less than the other" can be expressed as

x=y-35

Now, we replace the second equation into the first one

\begin{gathered} y-35+y=110 \\ 2y-35=110 \\ 2y=110+35 \\ 2y=145 \\ y=(145)/(2)=72.50 \end{gathered}

One brother has $72.50.

Now, we find the other value using the second equation

x=72.50-35=37.50

The other brother has $37.50.
