To find the hypotenuse we going to use the Pythagorean theorem

c^2=a^2+b^2

being c the hypotenuse and a and b the other two sides

Replacing

c^2=5^2+12^2

Solving

\begin{gathered} c^2=25+144 \\ c^2=169 \\ c=√(169) \\ c=13 \end{gathered}

Answer: hypotenuse = 13
