We know that the perimeter is 22 inches.

Also, the length is one inch less than two times the width, which means

l=2w-1

Then, we use the perimeter formula

\begin{gathered} P=2(w+l) \\ 22=2(w+2w-1) \\ (22)/(2)=3w-1 \\ 11=3w-1 \\ 3w=11+1 \\ w=(12)/(3) \\ w=4 \end{gathered}

Then, we find the length

l=2\cdot4-1=8-1=7

Hence, the dimensions are 4 inches wide and 7 inches long.
