\sf \longmapsto \: x- (5)/(3) =1

  • Simplify both sides of the equation

\sf \longmapsto \: x + ( - 5)/( 3) = 1

  • Add 5/3 to both sides

\sf \longmapsto x + ( - 5)/(3) + (5)/(3) = 1 + (5)/(3)

\sf \longmapsto \: x = (8)/(3)

\boxed{\sf { \red{ x = (8)/(3)}} }

\\ \sf\longmapsto x-5/3=1

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=1+5/3

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=3+5/3

\\ \sf\longmapsto x=8/3

Done
