A president being more popular can hurt them or help them It all depends on the actions that the president takes and the way the public perceives the president so it is solely up to the president on how it’s going to benefit or hurt him. For example most people would vote for a person that they know than a person that they don’t know very much. On the other hand if the person they know does not have a good reputation they would not want to vote for them
