Fossil fuels are a non-renewable energy source. While they burn easily and provide an efficient form of energy, there are many potential dangers to the environment caused by extracting these fuels from the ocean. What are non-renewable resources? What dangers and impacts on the marine ecosystem arise from harvesting fossil fuels such as oil and methane hydrates from the oceans? What is the overall impact of harvesting non-renewable resources such as these?

What are non-renewable resources?

A nonrenewable resource is one, that can be exhausted and cannot be regenerated or its rate of regeneration is slower than its consumption rate, for example, coal, oil, and natural gas.
