You want to know the average GPA in a high school with 1,200 students. You get all 50 students taking Honors U.S. History to tell you their GPAs and you calculate the average. Is this sample a good representation of the student population as a whole? Why or why not?

ANSWER:

Does not represent the entire high school population

Explanation:

It is not a good representation for 3 reasons:

1. 50 is not a large enough sample of 1200 students.

2. Since it is a representation of the entire school, students cannot be selected from a single subject.

3. You cannot be a representative sample if only students with good grades participate, students must be taken within all grade ranges.
