Mining operations are sometimes expected to remediate an area once they have finished mining. This means they need to restore it to its original state as much as possible. Do you think this is even possible? Why or why not?

It is possible, even though the process takes time and money from the companies. To remediate an area once used form mining, companies need to clean it and do further steps like land contouring and placement of topsoil.
