Use a linear equation to solve the word problem.

Two truck rental companies have different rates. V-Haul has a base charge of $75.00 , plus $0.50 per mile. W-Haul has a base charge of $69.10, plus $0.55 per mile. For how many miles would these two companies charge the same amount?
If a driver drives miles___________, those two companies would charge the same amount of money.

The equations are

\\ \tt\hookrightarrow y=0.50x+75

\\ \tt\hookrightarrow y=0.55x+69.10

  • x is no of miles

Now

\\ \tt\hookrightarrow 0.55x+69.10=0.50x+75

\\ \tt\hookrightarrow 0.55x-0.50x=75-69.1

\\ \tt\hookrightarrow 0.05x=5.9

\\ \tt\hookrightarrow x=5.9/0.05

\\ \tt\hookrightarrow x=118mi
