$\begin{gathered} 2|x-6|=10 \\ (2\left|x-6\right|)/(2)=(10)/(2) \\ \mleft|x-6\mright|=5 \\ x-6=-5\quad \mathrm{or}\quad \: x-6=5 \\ \end{gathered}$

then

$\begin{gathered} x-6=-5 \\ x-6+6=-5+6 \\ x=1 \end{gathered}$

$\begin{gathered} x-6=5 \\ x-6+6=5+6 \\ x=11 \end{gathered}$
