Production industry: They manufacture/make goods for use/consumption.

Service industry: They provide services to people (see explanation).

The production industry makes goods that can be used/consumed. This is stuff like food, cars, building materials, clothing, toys, equipment,etc. Basically the production industry makes tangibl objects.

The service industry doesn't make anything but 'does the work for you' for lack of a better term. This includes plumbers fixing a leaky faucet for you, a doctor providing physical therapy, a janitor cleaning the restrooms at school, an accountant doing filing your taxes, a GrubHub driver delivering your food, a music teacher giving you guitar lessons, etc.
