Step 1:

Draw all diagrams to illustrate what each

Small square represent unit = 1

A rectangle represents x

Step 2

Red represents negative and other colors represent positive

Step 3

On the left-hand side, we have three small yellow squares = 3x and three red rectangles = -3x

So on the left-hand side, we have 3 - 3x

Step 4

On the right-hand side, we have three red small squares = -3 , four red rectangle = -4x and two green rectangles = 2x

So on the right-hand side we have -3 - 4x + 2x = -3 - 2x

Step 5

3 - 3x = -2x - 3

3( 1 - x ) = -2x - 3

3 = 3x - 2x - 3

3 = x - 3

Final answer

The following expressions are equivalent

3 - 3x = -2x - 3

3( 1 - x ) = -2x - 3

3 = x - 3

3 + 3x = 2x - 3 CANNOT BE EQUIVALENT
