\begin{gathered} 1pt=0.125gal \\ \\ \\ \text{If }(1)/(9)pt\text{ of water is add to 1 gal of paint.} \\ \\ \\ 36\text{gal paint}\cdot\frac{1/9\text{ pt water}}{1gal\text{ paint}}=36\cdot(1)/(9)\text{pt water}=4pt\text{ water} \\ \\ \\ 4\text{ pints of water are added to 36 gallons of paint.} \\ \\ \text{Total gallons of paint:} \\ \text{Turn the pints to gallons:} \\ 4pt\cdot\frac{0.125\text{gal}}{1pt}=0.5gal \\ \\ \text{Total gallons of final paint:} \\ 36\text{gal}+0.5\text{gal}=36.5gal \end{gathered}
