before: secure anything that could blow away outside (chairs, tables etc.), prepare a stash of food, water, and first aid, and make sure you have a spot to take cover
during: stay in your designated safe spot and keep track of the current weather; if you hear a sound that resembles an oncoming train, it is likely a tornado
after: leave your safe spot once sure that the storm passed, and evaluate damage inside and outside if there is any
