3(x+2)=x+8

First multiply 3 to numbers in parenthesis

3x+6=x+8

You should get 3x+6 because 3 times x is 3x and 3 times 2 is 6.

The next step is to get all the numbers off the left side, so lets start with 6. You will subtract 6 by both sides getting...

3x=x+2

This is because 8 minus 6 is 2 and when you subtract 6 minus 6 it cancels out on the left side. Now lets move the x to the left side and to do that we will subtract it sense it is postive you do the opposite which is subtract. subtracting from both sides gets you with.

2x=2

This is because 3x minus x is 2x and x minus x cancels out on the right side. Now lets get the 2 off the x and to do that we divide 2 by both sides, leaving us with.

x=1

two divided by two is one and 2x divided by two is x.
