Step-by-step explanation:

You have to balance the equation. That means you have the same number of atoms of each element on both sides of the equation. For example, if you have 4 C (carbon) on the left side before the arrow, you also have to have 4 C on the right side.

Having 1 CH4 on the left gives you 1 C and 4 H. On the right side, there is also 1 C in the CO2 and since there are only 2 Hs in H2) you need 2 H20 to balance the 4 Hs. You do the same thing for each letter. So since you needed 2 H2O to balance the Hs, that gives you 2 O2s , plus 2 more Os on the side of the equation from the 1 CO2, for a total of 4 Os on the right side. Therefore, yu need 4 Os on the left. there are 2 in O2, so then you need 2 of O2.

You just have to keep adding them up until there is an equal number of each letter on each side.
