After the civil war, America entered the reconstruction era, which included republicans trying to grant civil rights to African Americans. Some of rights included citizenship, owning land, protection from the law, protection from violent democrats, the right to vote, the right to become employed, and the right to testy in a court of law. Republicans created something called the Freedman’s Bureau, which helped African Americans find jobs, food, and shelter, learn to read and write, and provided some protection from domestic terrorist group, the KKK. Additionally, the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments were put in place, which officially donned African American civil rights.
