As portrayed in the movie, "Walk The Line", Johnny Cash had a modest upbringing

and didn't seem to have a great relationship to his father. How do you think that
would influence his music. How does his early life compare to the way you see kids
growing up in Southern California?

He sang about troubles and hardship that he could understand. It made his lyrics relatable to the music audience. Similarly, kids in Southern California, or really any community have varied means. Some of them, like him, have very little. That can either be used to inspire them or it can break them.
