A slab of ice (density = 920 kg/m3, volume = 0.725 m3) floats on a freshwater lake. what is the maximum mass that a woman can have in order that she can stand on the ice without getting her feet wet?

Answer:

920 kg / m^3 * .725 m^3 = 667 kg = mass of ice

1000 kg / m^3 * .725 = 725 kg maximum amount of water displaced

725 - 667 = 58 kg maximum mass that ice can support

Note 58 * 2.2 = 128 lb equating kg vs equivalent "weight" in lbs
