1 to show that the world is split into rich and poor nations

2 richer countries are usually located in the northern hemispheres, Australia being an exception

3 poorer countries are located in the Southern Hemispheres

4 brandt line is not as useful because poorer countries are growing economically

5 wallesteins world map displays periphery countries
