Incorrect Work/Solution

-7x-3y+6/4x+2/2y

-7x-3y+1 1/2x+y

-5 1/2x-2y

Identify and explain the error


and:


Simplify: -(7x-3y)+2(3/4x+1/2y)

Show the correct steps and solution

I’m sorry I don’t understand the question and the numbers for the first part. Though, for the second part, I hope I can clarify it a little. (I attached the photo below in case it’d help)

First, you need to multiply the negative to 7x and to -3y. Hence -7x+3y (negative times negative is positive).

The second bracket you do the same. 2*3/4, cancel 2 and 4, hence you are left with 3/2x.
2*1/2y = cancel the common factor and you are left with 1y or simply y.

Now the simpler expression looks like this:
-7x+3y+3/2x+y

The last step you gotta combine like terms (x and y)
-7x+3/2x = -11/2x
3y+y=4y

Answer: -11/2x+4y
