Dusk Till Dawn
A story about a young white female that has been
Adopted, the people in witch adopted her are all
Black, will this affect her life or will it not?
My name is Trisha Tompson and from the age of 2-10, I was a foster kid. One day a family came and took me in at the age of 11 which is where I am now. The only problem with them is well, they're all black and truly it does not bug me one bit but, when we all go out in public people whisper and the question “Is that their child?” It hurts to think people would say things like that but it's the life I have to deal with. I have been with this family for 2 weeks. They have 3 other kids Jason who is 15, Mai who is 16, and Candan who is 13. Mai is the oldest but she is very sweet to me. I usually go to her if I have boy problems or anything. Me and Jason, we really don’t talk. Candan is like my best friend. We hang out 24/7 and are always caught together. “Hey you can’t do that, that's cheating!” Candan yells “Nah-ah you never said I could not climb a tree.” I yelled back with a light little laugh “Come on play far Trish.” He looked at me and gave me pleading eyes. “Oh common, fine catch me ‘right?” I said as I slowly settled myself out of the tree and into his arms. “Thanks, what do you want to do now?” I said getting up and looking at him. Candan is big, to be 13 he has muscles and is on a football team. “Well, we could go down to the lake, If ya want to.” he said with a crooked smile “White people Candan you know that they would never let you in.” I nudged him, “Maybe if you're with me.” he mumbled and stopped me “Trish I have never been to the lake you white folk use please can we try Trish. For me?” I looked at him. I know he has always wanted to go but we could get into so much trouble “Fine, for you.” I said as I looked down at the lake “Wait really? Okay, let's go! Common Jasper.” Oh, I almost forgot Jasper is me and his other friend “I don’t know bro, I’ll say back.” he said with worried eyes “Oh your coming Jaz.” I said as I grabbed his and Candan’s hands and pulled them to the lake. As we got there people began to look and whisper “A white girl with black boys ew.” On white girl muttered and took a sip of her tea. We edged to the water to hear a voice “HEY KID STOP RIGHT THERE.” I turned around and got in front of the boys in a guarding way “No black boys or girls is the rule Ma’am I’m sorry but they got to go.” He looked down at me. I swallowed hard and said what no one ever could have “You white people are so selfish you know. Yes, I am a white girl but blacks should not be treated differently…” I began to speak louder, everyone now looking at me “They are people, they have feelings, ever thought of that? Didn’t think so. You white people are so rude to these black folks for no reason.” I stood taller and squeezed both of their hands “They are human they never did anything to harm us now, did they? What because they were born we want to hate them and not let them do the things we do? You all should be ashamed and feel bad for how disrespectful y’all are.” Every white person and even some black workers looked at me while a white woman holding her phone videoing me. “Video me alright I’m just going to say-” Candan rubbed my arm “Trisha it’s okay common.” I looked at him “No I’m finishing this…” I trailed off “Black Folks are the same as any person what if they were green, blue, purple STILL THE SAME AS ANY PERSON EVER!” A tear fell from my eye “They are my-” My voice broke “Family, they are my family and always will be.” A white woman stood up “Excuse me but should you not have some white parents?” She was wearing a
yellow sundress and looked to be rich. “Yes I should but they died in a car crash, so his” I point to candan “Family took me in and has loved me every day since you know what y’all are so carless and fake.” I walked away while both boys followed me.
