Answer: 9 lb of apples and 31 lb of apricots

Explanation:

1.3a + 1.7(40 - a) = 1.61(40)

1.3a+1.7*40-1.7a=64.4

1.3a+68-1.7a=64.4

68-0.4a=64.4

68-64.4=0.4a

0.4a=3.6

a=9 pounds of apples

40-a=

40-9=31 pounds of apricots

9 lb of apples and 31 lb of apricots
