Answer: $0.48

Explanation:

$5.79 divided by 12, or 5.79/12 is 0.4825

Round your answer to the nearest penny and you get .48, or $0.48

To check, multiply 0.4825 by 12, and you get 5.79

Multiplying $0.48 (instead of 0.4825) by 12 will get you 5.76 (instead of 5.76), and while this answer is not completely accurate, it is a good way to estimate and show that you are close, or at least on the right track mathematically.

We know that 12 pairs cost $5.79. Unit rate is defined as the price of ONE pair. 1 pair. >? This is because we have the price for a dozen which is 5.79, so to calculate one pair we can simply divide the price of the dozen by the number in a dozen which is obviously 12.
