FG = 5 units

Explanation:

the points F, G, H lie on segment FH , with

FG + GH = FH , then

x + 3 + 2x = 9

3x + 3 = 9 ( subtract 3 from both sides )

3x = 6 ( divide both sides by 2 )

x = 2

Then

FG = x + 3 = 2 + 3 = 5 units
